Amsoil is still good to go. SO if youre a mobil 1 user, and youre finding yourself having a hard time finding your mobil 1 products, you can always call or PM me and we can switch you to a much superior product AMSOIL! currently i offer 2.0L & 2.5L oil changes with AMSOIL 10w 30 (good for 15000mi - 25000mi; depending on how you drive), an AMSOIL Oil Filter, and an engine flush for $85 installed! to take advantage of this, dont be afraid to call or PM Some inside info: According to the October 15 edition of Jobbers World Online News Brief, selected ExxonMobil synthetic products have been put on allocation effective October 1, 2008. The announcement explained, “ExxonMobil marketers (and direct served customers) were advised that allocation of Mobil 1 lubricants will take effect October 1 as a result of Hurricane Ike causing significant disruptions to supply lines to ExxonMobil Chemical’s (EMC) Beaumont, TX plant.” They went on to state, “According to marketers, the allocation is expected to last several months and impact availability of most Mobil 1 lubricants. Allocations are said to range from 15% to 100% based on lubricant type and package.” The article also implied that if you went to a local store and looked at the retail shelves at lunch time today, you might find the lubricant section slightly less stocked than normal already.
This announcement will most likely result in a great deal of existing Mobil 1 lubricant customers searching for replacement products to use due to the pending availability issues.

My car had some serious idle issues when I used Castrol, Mobil 1, Valvoline, Chevron, etc, etc. About 1k miles after the AMSOIL went in, the idle calmed down immensely. It seemed smoother and I was burning oil less frequently. I think my current oil problem (burn about 1 quart a week) is related to my PCV valve, so I don't think any grade oil would fix that.
However I CAN say the AMSOIL in my gearsets (trans & rear diff) definitely is smoother. I can shift a bit smoother, my small drip leak is much less subtle (more viscoscity?). My 1st used to take a bit of work when downshifting and rev matching, but now it goes in relatively easy.
Also, when coasting in a low gear, easily explained as engine braking, the noises coming from the transmission and engine are smoother.
Considering I usually spend about $65 for a regular synthetic change, another $20 for a flush AND superior product with 2-3 times the life is well worth it.

My comments above were regarding both the motor oil and the gear oils. Top notch stuff in my opinion.

so i forgot i started this thread..lol. im glad, anson, that you like the gear oil...im about to do a change on mine too. see how it is in the 5spds. update to the 15k Oil changes. Just got a service bulletin update from amsoil. apparently in AVCS equipped engines, theres a screen that can be clogged (and should be changed at every oil change - got me where its located) but if it gets clogged it can starve the turbo of oil. Amsoil is recommending that the oil be changed on these models at every 3750 miles. for those cars, my rep at Amsoil says this: We recommend that you run either our “ASL” 5w-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil which in your vehicle is safe to use for 3,750 miles or you can use our “SSO” 0w-30 Signature Series oil which is also only safe for use for 3,750 miles. This decision to recommend only 3,750 mile drain intervals was based off of a manufacturers design flaw within the turbo’s cooling system. I have attached a Technical Service Bulletin from Subaru. with that, im still running the 10w30 for about 10K miles between changes...im a 2.0L tho...no AVCS here. i havent had any issues and my oil tests have come back looking normal.

there's a small screen on the block side of the oil feed. It's safe to simply remove it. I figured if you have major deposits in the oil, the turbo isn't the only component suffering.
