Very difficult.  The code needs to be rewritten to know it's a small format, dismiss the graphics, re-align everything.  Also the server needs to know immediately what type of device is coming in (blackberry vs iphone vs windows vs mac desktop).  I've looked into it and said, "aww fuck it.  not worth all that trouble".  But if I can tell everyone, Socalf4.com has it's own app or iphone ready, it would be much more marketable.

I know, I have plans in place.  It's a matter of putting aside a whole day to implement it at the data center onsite.

here are some geeky notes:

SoCalF4 currently resides on an Internet appliance, BlueQuartz running Fedora Core Linux.  It   The hardware is a bit paltry (Dual Pentium III Xeon with 4GB of RAM...the shit about 4 years ago).  I will be figuring out a way to keep the entire OS, database, galleries, emails unscathed while it moves to a completely new platform.

It's new home will be on a VMware ESX server.  Dual Quad-Core Xeon with 32GB of RAM running on a Fibre Channel RAID (4TB usable). This hardware will be shared amongst other Virtual Machines as well.  Think of it this way, you have a super duper computer with NO operating system when it boots.  It basically boots into a manager of sorts.  This manager is capable of hosting many OSes  (multiple linux, multiple Windows XP/2003/2000).  Each Virtual machine checks in with the manager and passes the request to the CPU and hardware.  Think of it as running 20 installations on 1 computer without the performance loss!

And from the outside of the machine, it behaves like any other computer would.  Stay tuned.

I found the source of the problem...not enough RAM!  I have 3GB dedicated to this server, after a reboot, all is good.  After about 3 days, the memory available dwindles down to 100mb avail.

I hope to have a duplicate of these forums on another box tonight or tomorrow.

Some of you may have just experienced an outage for about 10min.  I was backing the forums & database up and copying it to the new server. It looks like everything worked!

I will migrate the forums and make changes to the firewall tonight.   You'll be working off of a new server by tomorrow morning, so if something still seems slow or not right, let me know immediately.
